Meet Our Team Series: Cory- Director of Construction

Meet Cory, our Director of Construction. Growing up in Arkansas, Cory had an interest in construction at an early age. His dad built all the homes they ever lived in. He remembers going to jobsites as a kid with his tonka trucks and building tunnels and bridges and being obsessed with creating houses and cars with Legos every chance he got.

Cory went to college at University of Arkansas and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing Management. After college, he moved to Denver with a group of friends in 2011. Out of college, Cory got a job in oil and gas in land administration and worked in that field for 6 years customer service role before joining Larsen. His job included negotiations and visiting with land owners. One evening, he was walking through the Wash Park neighborhood and saw a Larsen sign in front of a beautiful custom home being built and decided it was time for a change. His fiancé, Mia, had worked as a Nanny for one of our past clients as well and made an introduction.

Cory is driven to build the nicest, cleanest, most custom homes in Denver. He thinks it’s important to lead our construction team in getting outside of the box. “Details are very important which is why I really love what you can do when you have a home that is client driven instead of a spec,” Cory says. As an organization freak his jobsites are always spotless.

“I believe it is important to connect on a deep level with our clients and our trades and learn about what they do and who they are at their core.” Over the years Cory has become close with many of the clients he has built homes for. Every year one of our past clients invites Cory to come stay at her property in Steamboat and another client has put him on the annual guest list of their adult pool party. It isn’t just how he works alongside our clients but turns them into family.

Every evening after work, Cory and Mia love to walk their neighborhood so they can admire the architecture and design in the Denver Country Club. He takes a lot of photos of things he admires and tries to incorporate them into our homes. It is important to our entire team to make sure that the homes we build fit into the neighborhoods and that we reuse or recycle materials when we can. Cory understands that new homes are not always accepted in the neighborhoods we build in and wants them to architecturally be a good fit, as well as Larsen being a good neighbor during the build process.

Cory is fascinated by old style and bringing it back to life which is why when you come to our office you may see misfit items from homes that it was too hard to part with. Mia and Cory attend estate sales on the weekends to buy vintage furniture and lamps to refinish their workshop at home. They currently do this for friends and family. Over the past 8 years he has also been rebuilding 1978 Suzuki motorcycle. “The quality was there back in the day,” Cory says. “I like that everyone at Larsen doesn’t have the same train of thought and that we can collaborate. The level of detail that our team puts into every step along the way means there are no corners cut. The level of quality Larsen has matches the old days.” He wants to see the homes we build today stand the tests of time.
